Monorail proposed to be built in Tijuana to revive tourism

The monorail would have three tracks in Tijuana

The project to build a monorail in the city of Tijuana was announced this Friday, with the aim of improving development and mobility in the city. The project submitted to the Department of Economic Development of Tijuana (Sedeti) seeks to boost pedestrian crossing and increase tourism in the city.

"While the project is under analysis, this action that would represent a significant investment, could strengthen ties with the United States and other countries that visit Tijuana for tourism purposes throughout the year and would also serve to support local businesses," said the head of Sedeti, Arturo Perez Behr.

The travel path would have a length of 10.28 kilometers with three routes and 13 stations established in points of high concurrence, such as the Central Zone, Agua Caliente Boulevard and La Presa, areas that due to their population density would be favored.

For its part, Route 1 will be within the Central Zone, from the international lane to Constitución Avenue, and will consist of the Pedwest, Reloj Monumental - Revolución Avenue and Constitución - Calle 10 stations, which add up to a length of 2.10 kilometers.

Route number 2 would cover 10.70 kilometers from Constitution Avenue to Clinic No. 27, passing through seven stations: Torre Agua Caliente, Cuauhtémoc, Calete, Campestre, Ermita, Carrusel and Clinic 27 as the last destination.

Finally, Route 3 will be shorter and will go from Clinic No.27 to La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez; it will consist of the stations: Los Pinos, Avenida De las Presas and La Presa, covering a distance of 5.48 kilometers.
