Foreigners can arrange a temporary or permanent residence to live in Tijuana

Tijuana is the living example of a city in constant progress. You just have to go through its main avenues and see the residential buildings that stand out from the landscape.

The growth of this city is such that it has 130 years of history and is already the fourth most important city in the country after Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, which are almost 500 years old each.

It is not surprising that Tijuana, with its artistic rebirth and the culinary boom that accompanies it, is increasingly the place that many Americans and Europeans are choosing to live.

Let's face it, we all like to live well and know that our money is well invested, for example, in our heritage.

And it is even better when this means a better quality of life and we get it for a fair price.

For this reason, the real estate in Tijuana bet on the North American market and dedicate efforts to meet their needs.

"On the coast, practically 80% of [the developments] are designed for a foreign market for a second home, retirement, or vacations," said Hector Reyes, General Director of Grupo Frisa and President of Canadevi Zona Costa.

Tijuana offers apartments in the heart of the city, residences with amazing views, and the possibility of opening the curtain and receive the "good morning" of the breeze that comes from the sea.

And on this side of the border, there is the possibility of acquiring housing much cheaper than in the United States, according to Araceli Almaraz, researcher at the Colegio de la Frontera Norte.

There are two ways to obtain a legal stay in Mexico and both are simple steps. You can apply for a temporary residence permit or a permanent residence permit.

If you want to stay in Mexico for a period of 180 days to 4 years, it is necessary that you process a temporary residence visa with the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

For this, you will need:

  • Passport or a valid identity document
  • A photography
  • Proof of your legal stay in the country in which you submit your visa application. This is done through the National Institute of Migration.
  • Payment for the issued visa
  • Present documents that prove you are financially stable.
  • Or a family relationship with someone Mexican or a foreigner who has the status of Temporary Resident.

If you intend to stay in Mexico for more than 4 years, you must apply for a Permanent Residency visa, which requires all the above requirements, plus a document that proves a retirement or pension.

The cost for the issuance of a visa in a foreign passport costs $36 USD.

That is to say, that you spent the same going out for a meal in the United States, and in the procedure indicated here.

For the researcher Araceli Almaraz, "the history of Tijuana is a history of migration" and is part of the local identity.

Throughout that history, Tijuana has been home to people of Chinese, Russian, Italian, Haitian, and American origin.

This is why a large part of the icons of the city have foreign influence.

Both the Caesar salad, with Italian influence, as well as the traditional Chinese food and the gastronomy that we know today as Bajamed, which is the result of merging the Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines.

Here in Tijuana you will discover the reasons that have made this region the favorite place for vacationers and retired people.

Beyond its gastronomy, medical industry, or wines and beers, what Tijuana and Baja California offer is the opportunity to live better.
