At a press conference, the Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism, Mario Escobedo Carignan, announced that Baja California received the Safe Travel Seal from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) this October. This is based on the more than 200 protocols implemented in the tourism sector in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which were authorized by the Department of Health and now recognized by the WTTC.

According to the Secretary, through workshops over three months he met with tourism officials from each of the activities in the region that belong to this line of work in order to implement these protocols.

"Although we are not promoting tourist activity as such, we are positioning tourist destinations in the mind, in the memory of potential travelers. Once we reactivate ourselves, once we break the back of the covid and reintegrate ourselves, well then we will remind them which are the destinations in Baja California that they can visit," said Escobedo this Monday.

What activities and how many of these have been reactivated in the state? As presented by Carignan are the following:

Lodging Centers: 270
"Mesa Segura" Restaurants: 2 thousand 822
Tour operators: 103
Airports and airlines: 2 airports and 5 airlines
Auto-transporting stations: 4
Events and meetings: 2 (Low 500 among these)
Wine tourism: 59 wineries

In the case of bars, they are not yet allowed to reopen but it is likely that they will soon do so in Baja California once they also have hygiene and safety protocols in place; in the meantime, the Secretary of Tourism mentioned that the bar-restaurants will be able to serve until midnight.

In spite of this, the population is invited to follow the prevention measures and not to lower their guard since the pandemic is not yet over, this in order to avoid the increase of infections and therefore the closing of businesses or activities.
